The Pleated Series

This series of functional ceramics is hand-built then hand-carved. Each furrow is repeatedly refined to achieve the geometric pleated effect.

Each vessel has taken between 12 and 50 hours to make, depending on size.

Carving in this way takes time and attention. It’s a mindful, relaxing way to make beautiful vessels for everyday use.

The carved furrows help with grip and dispersing heat on the hand from hot food or liquid inside. Some are softened on top and bottom for smoother handling. Cups have fine curve rims for ease of drinking and a gentle touch on lips.

Glazes are kept minimal to better see the carefully hand-shaped forms and hand-carved pleated texture.

The Terrene Series

A series of precisely made classical designs for serving bowls, cups, vases and bowls. Each piece is hand-built, with expressed joins. Delicate surface textures express the qualities of the clay they’re made from and are stoneware fired with loosely applied, soft matt glazes to contrast the precision of their form. Each piece is made for everyday use.
